Guys, be sincere: Would you wish you had been bigger? Almost definitely, the answer is yes.

"I believe there isn't a guy on the planet who has not wished his penis were an inch or two longer," states Michael O'Leary, MD, professor of urologic surgery at Harvard Medical College and a urologist at Brigham and Women's Clinic in Boston.

However, after much more than a century of usually dubious and occasionally lunatic penis enlargement attempts, there is still not a lot you are able to do. Sure, there are tons and lots of intended options available -- penis tablets, creams, brutal stretching workouts, horrific-looking devices, and penis surgery. Almost none of it really works. The couple of methods that may function often have modest advantages and severe side effects. How serious? In a few instances, erectile dysfunction-serious.

"Trust me, if I understood of the way to securely and effectively increase penis dimension, I'd be considered a billionaire," O'Leary tells WebMD. "But I do not. Nobody does."

Nonetheless, typical feeling doesn't stop size-obsessed men from trying very sketchy remedies on a important part in their anatomy -- and risking a great deal within the procedure.

How Small Is really a Small penis?
Think you're smaller than average? You are probably not.

The typical erect penis is usually five to six inches long with a circumference of four to 5 inches. There's much more variation in the size of flaccid penises.

Some men are truly smaller sized than that. In uncommon instances, genetics and hormone issues cause a situation known as micropenis -- an erect penis of below three inches. Sometimes Peyronie's illness or prostate cancer surgery can reduce a guy's dimension.

But studies show that the majority of the guys looking for penis enlargement are average-sized. They simply believe they're below typical.

Why? Part of it's perspective. It is extremely hard to gauge the dimensions of one's personal penis -- looking down, you have got a bad angle.

Psychology performs a role, as well. Some average-sized guys become obsessed with the concept that they are too little. There's even a psychiatric prognosis: penile dysmorphic disorder. It's much like the perceptual distortion of anorexics who believe they are fat no matter how thin they get.

According to one study, nearly all men who get penis enlargement surgery have this situation. They're also the least satisfied with the outcomes.
